I work with my own method. If you are not a beginner, I test your language abilities with a written test and a short conversation. After getting a sense of where you are in your learning process, we discuss your needs and expectations. Based on your needs, we set up a learning plan. It consists of 4 basic fields:
-pronunciation: if you have already learned
some Hungarian, we make sure you do not have a strong accent;
if you are a beginner, we learn all the sounds with some easy
methods. In both cases we include a 3-5 min. pronunciation exercise
in every class, even after learning the basics. This is really
necessary, as American English is so different in pronunciation
and intonation from Hungarian.
-expanding your vocabulary: I like to go through
18-23 main topics (e.g. family, food, social activities)
to make sure you establish a good vocabulary.
Later, we practice reading simple texts that also
help your vocabulary and pronunciation.
-basic everyday expressions: at the first
5-6 classes (for beginners) those are seriously stressed. In
my experience, it is great motivation for students to realize
that they can actually SPEAK the language.
-grammar: at the beginning, we do not stress grammar
so much, as I feel, there are other fields that you can benefit
from more. We learn present, past and future tenses, possessive
forms, AND when you established the basics, we start working
on your grammar.
We continuously discuss your progress, and tailor the classes to your new needs.
I provide every necessary book, handout, and sound material for your learning, but if you
have a book that you would like to use, we can include it.
I teach you at your home, office or the location of your choice.
