“Nanda Dyssou has been teaching Hungarian to me privately for almost 3 years. Over the years she has established a wonderful rapport with me. She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Her lesson plans are well prepared and seamlessly delivered. She is professional, reliable and she uses a progressive curriculum that includes a variety of tools such as books, magazines, games, puzzles, conversations, and tests so her lessons are always stimulating; never boring. She is also open and receptive to new ideas. Nanda exhibits above and beyond the skills to teach/tutor any age or level with her professional, calm manner and exceptional communication skills. It is a pleasure to work with her. I enthusiastically recommend her as a teacher.”

“Nanda is one of the best Hungarian teacher's I have had (and I've had a few!). Unlike other language teachers who think they can teach a language just because they can speak it, Nanda really knows what she is doing. I have only had private classes with her, but she tailors the classes to my needs and my skill level. I've been trying to think of some constructive criticism, but I really can't think of anything Nanda could do better. She is a great teacher!”

Michelle Sawyer, Granada Hills

“Hey Nanda, I think you do a kick butt job! I think that your lesson plans go over what you need to know and I learned a lot when I was studying with you. Furthermore, I can't wait to get back on track with biz, so I can start taking lessons again. (...)”

“My name is Mimi Holt  I am thrilled to write a recommendation for Nanda. I am a field representative for a union that represents hospital workers from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Hungarian language is not a requirement of my work, but it has fascinated me for many years. I have known Nanda for over a year. I searched through various avenues in Los Angeles for studying Hungarian but none seemed adequate for my needs, until I found Nanda Dyssou.

Nanda's teaching skills are strong. She is a patient and clear explainer of technical details. She is able to help students grasp the connections. Nanda always gave me confidence and encouragement to go further and further. She balanced repetition with new material, she kept the focus on building practical vocabulary. She brings humor and laughter to each new concept. Even though Hungarian is among one of the more difficult languages for native English speakers, Nanda never wavered in her role of explainer, introducer, nurturer, encourager.

Nanda is a very resourceful person who continues to develop ways to bring Hungarian to life. Here, in Los Angeles we are at least 6000 miles from Hungary, but there are resources available if one takes the time to look. Nanda is the perfect person, because she constantly searches for existing resources to draw upon. If she can't find a particular resource, she creates one! She is always on the lookout for ways for her students to use, practice and build their language ability. An example of this is a film series she put together. And a potluck. And a poetry reading, to name just a very few of many activities Nanda is responsible for. Nanda developed a Hungarian language film series and invited students and members of the Hungarian speaking community to watch and stay afterwards to discuss the films. Once she has created an event, Nanda does not sit back. She actively introduces students to each other and tries to build lasting connections. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious, two qualities that have greatly contributed to her success.

We in Los Angeles are incredibly fortunate to have Nanda and her pleasant, creative persistence in our lives. She is a joy to be around and I recommend her fully, without hesitation or reservations.”
